The Barrel-Fermented Chenin Blanc
Posted: on February 27, 2009

Last night I decided to spoil my boyfriend – I bought him some of the very limited Môreson Barrel-Fermented Chenin Blanc (his favourite wine is the Premium Chardonnay) – and I thought that maybe he’d enjoy a glass or two with the meal.

Apparently not.

He was half way through the bottle before the meal even started and spent the rest of the night going on about how “amazing, beautiful, well-structured, delicious etc the Barrel-Fermented Chenin was”. He was gushing about a bottle of wine.

I’m just a little concerned that one day I’ll come home from work and find him alone whispering sweet-nothings to his bottle of Môreson Barrel-Fermented Chenin Blanc.

Oh the horror!

P.S. It really was the best present I’ve ever given my boyfriend – he literally smiled after every sip. So if you’re looking for something special for your significant other, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, mother, father etc I recommend the Barrel-Fermented Chenin Blanc. Môreson Wine at The Vineyard at Stockcross
Posted: on February 25, 2009

Some of the Môreson wine and cap classique have recently been added to The Vineyard at Stockcross’s (esteemed) winelist. Next time you find yourselves in the area (and by this I mean the greater UK) you’ll know that there’s a bottle of delicious Môreson waiting for you at The Vineyard.

If however you’d like to order yourself a case (or a bottle) of your favourite Môreson wine or cap classique – from the comfort of your own home -  get hold of Lynda. Lynda is absolutely fantastic and she is the best person to speak to about getting your hands on some Môreson in the UK and USA.

To email her just click here.

P.S. If anyone has pictures of the very beautiful Vineyard at Stockcross, and you don’t mind us publishing them on this blog, please get hold of us.

The weekend ahead
Posted: on February 20, 2009

Last weekend was beautiful, apart from that incessant (drive you completely crazy) wind, and this weekend looks set to be even better. Apparently we can expect the following -

Note not one mention of ‘incessant wind’ – Y.A.Y – so apply that suntan lotion and come and pay us a visit!

Because Môreson, this weekend, is going to look a little like this

And this

And maybe this

If this is how we treat our dogs imagine how well we treat our grapes …

Môreson: an informal wildlife sanctuary
Posted: on February 18, 2009

If you’ve visited us (at Môreson Wine Farm) you’ll know that the farm is flanked by the Forestry. This means that a whole heap of wild animals including lynx, wild pigs, buck, porcupines and other animals often pay us a visit. We love the fact that they enjoy spending time on Môreson and we don’t even mind that the pigs regularly tear apart our lawn looking for food – after all this is their home as much as it is ours.

There is (however) one group of animals that always seems gets the raw end of the deal – the reptiles, specifically snakes.  If your skin started crawling a little it’s totally OK – ours used to do the same! But we’ve recently discovered that snakes (and other reptiles) are grossly misunderstood.

Last week we had The Reptile Education Dude come out to the farm to teach us all about snakes. He was fantastic and the snakes (and other reptiles) were awesome! Everyone who took part learnt all kinds of things including:

  • how shy and misunderstood snakes and other reptiles are
  • how to behave around snakes
  • how to handle them if they need to be relocated.

We’re pretty excited because now we know how to handle snakes (that we come across) in the least harmful and traumatising (for both of us) way.

Now we just need to come across a snake (or two) so we can practice our newly acquired knowledge and skills.

The Weekend in Pictures
Posted: on February 17, 2009

This weekend the wind howled but, somehow, the weather remained just beautiful on Môreson was just beautiful. It was a tranquil escape from the madness.

They look too perfect to be real, but they are - I promise.

Harvest Report Back
Posted: Nikki on February 3, 2009

Finally some information from those directly involved in the harvest apparently it’s going (and I quote) “going very smooth and everybody is very happy”.

This is a good thing. Sometimes harvest has a way of getting completely out of control. One minute everything is fine and the next it’s gone C.R.A.Z.Y! Thank goodness that’s not the case this year.

My favourite piece of the latest harvest report was this gem – “we’ll continue our (post harvest) irrigation program on the blocks (as we finish harvesting the block). We do not want them to go into stress now – they’ve done their job well.”

It’s no wonder the grapes looked so glorious – they get treated like guests at a 5 star resort. Being a Môreson vine is certainly living the life.

The Harvest Pictures

With harvest well on its way I think it’s time for some pictures. They’re typical harvest pictures although our grapes are definitely the best looking. If there was a Ms Grape 2009 title I think we’d be the clear winners.
