What’s Happening on the Farm?
Posted: on March 27, 2009

The first signs of Autumn have arrived. The leaves haven’t started to turn but the sun (like so many people I know) snuggles down for a few more minutes every morning. Maybe it’s also avoiding that slight nip that’s appeared in the air?

All the Môreson grapes are in and it looks like our vines are all thinking about taking a nice long (well deserved) holiday. The rest of the team, however, is not going anywhere. We’re too busy making wine, bottling some magnificent 2006 Magia, disgorging our Cap Classique, taking bookings for Neil Jewell’s new cooking courses and The Stay in the Vines – Winery House Promotion – and all of that is only a fraction of what’s going on.

Being in the wine business is definitely exciting!

Gold at Chardonnay du Monde 2009
Posted: on March 20, 2009

Our 2007 Premium Chardonnay has been awarded a gold at the 2009 Chardonnay du Monde Competitionthe 16th International Competition of the Best Chardonnay Wines in the World.

A total of 923 wines, from 37 countries, entered the 2009 Chardonnay du Monde Competition.  Of these only 65 were awarded gold, with 3 (of these 65) going to South African Chardonnays. A big congratulations from us to the other gold winners – La Motte and Glen Carlou!

We’ve sold out of the Premium Chardonnay 2007 – so if you have some hold onto it, it’s now very rare! The 2008 Premium Chardonnay is looking exceptionally good (maybe even better than the 2007) – to preoder the 2008 Premium Chardonnay send us an email.

Môreson Chenin Blanc is Wine of the Week
Posted: on March 13, 2009

Harvest 2009 has pretty much drawn to a close – we’re going to be harvesting our last lot of grapes this weekend. Which means that you can look forward to our exceptionally exciting 2009 harvest report.

While you wait pop on over to the Food and Wine section at iAfrica.com where there’s a very nice write up about the Môreson Chenin Blanc AKA Wine of the Week.

Chenin Blanc has always been my favourite white wine and I think that the Môreson Chenin Blanc is one of the best in South Africa (and a complete steal – it’s presently going for R59 off the farm). Because it’s so good the first 4 people (from Cape Town only), to comment on this piece, will get a bottle of Chenin as a gift from me.

Cooking with the Chef
Posted: on March 12, 2009

Bread and Wine Vineyard Restaurant (our little and very popular farm restaurant) has recently started a ‘Cooking with the Chef‘ series.

If you (or someone you know) is interested in spending the morning with Neil Jewell (Bread & Wine Head Chef and South African Charcuterie King) why not book in for what promises to be an amazing cooking session?

The cooking series is taking place on the following mornings:

Friday 3rd July, 14th August or 28th August.

It costs R1800 per person and this includes the cooking class, your meal, wines, water, aprons and (of course) the recipes.

Places are disappearing almost as quickly as our limited edition Barrel-Fermented Chenin Blanc – so you’d better book your seat/s now!

To book (or for more information) just pop us a mail by clicking here.

Môreson Wine Review
Posted: on March 9, 2009

There’s the nicest piece on Môreson Wine and the whole Môreson Experience over at SA Rocks. Whenever I read one of these ‘positive wine review pieces’ I feel like a teenage girl who has finally been asked out by the guy she likes – positively giddy.

For those of you that are wondering SA Rocks is a hugely popular South African website that highlights the positive and interesting things happening in our beautiful country. It’s always got interesting articles written by passionate people – so if you’re looking for a great read head on over.

Oh and if you want to read Vanessa Clark’s Môreson Wine Review just click on (wait for it) ‘Môreson Wine Review‘.

Premium Chardonnay improves your chances cycling a great Argus time
Posted: on March 6, 2009

For those of you that are going to be in Cape Town for the Pick ‘n Pay Argus Cycle Tour why not pop out for some good wine? Sure some of you are going to be cycling, but that shouldn’t stop you – I’ve heard that wine (especially Môreson wine) the day before or day after a big race makes all the difference.

Seriously, a bottle (or 6) of Premium Chardonnay has been known to make time disappear. Which is perfect is you’re crazy brave enough to cycle all that way.

If you’re interested in what The Vineyard at Stockcross (the 2 star Michelin restaurant, in the UK, that’s now stocking some of the Môreson wines) looks likes – and the type of food they serve – check out textlad’s photos. He’s kindly agree to let us link to them – thanks dude.

Release of the Magia 2006
Posted: on March 2, 2009

If you’re one of our loyal blog readers it’s finally going to pay off – you heard it hear first: we’re officially sold out of the Môreson Magia 2005. I can hear you booing but – never fear – we’re in the process of labeling the Môreson Magia 2006. This news is so fresh we haven’t even finished compiling the tasting notes yet (those should be available by next week).

The 2005 Môreson Magia was a great wine – scoring an impressive (and unbeaten) 4 stars in WINE Magazine’s 2008 Bordeaux Blend Challenge – and the 2006 Môreson Magia promises to be even more spectacular.

Plus (between you and me and putting awards aside) it’s an absolutely delicious wine! I had guests around last weekend and I had to throw them out before they drank through all my precious Magia 2006 stock.

If you’d like to get in before the madness (or you know of people who are die hard Magia fans) you (or they) can pre-order the Môreson Magia 2006 by emailing us or phoning us on one of these numbers.
