Stay in the Winelands
Posted: on April 28, 2009

If you’re ever looking for a break, from the hectic side of life, you should book yourself into our Winery House. I think it’s some of the best self-catering accommodation in Franschhoek. It’s 4 stars, has 3 double rooms (so it sleeps 6), it has great beds (super comfortable with wonderful linen), a fabulous kitchen, lounge/dining room, DSTV (satellite TV), a swimming pool and stacks more.

At the moment you can book our Stay in the Vines package and you, and 5 mates/family members, can come stay (for the weekend) for only R6600!

It’s totally awesome, even if I do say so myself.

Le Quartier Français place in the top 50 (again)
Posted: on April 21, 2009

Le Quartier Français, our super-famous sister establishment in Franschhoek, has just had their Tasting Room restaurant placed 37th in the world at the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants. This is the 5th consecutive year they’ve been included in the top 50.

Impressive!

Also they won Best Restaurant in Africa and the Middle East.

Seriously impressive!

Well done LQF – everyone at Môreson is incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved.

For the first time in a long time another South African restaurant, La Colombe, placed in the top 50 and 3 other South African restaurants placed in the top 51-100 rankings.

It’s definitely proof that South Africa is one of the food destinations. When you couple that fact with the consistently good performance of South African wines in international competitions you realise that we’ve definitely got something special – world class food and wine that both local and international visitors can enjoy.

South African Wine Blogs
Posted: on April 14, 2009

The SA wine scene is beginning to generate some wonderful online content. Stuff that you feel you really want to read. I find this incredibly exciting! There seems to be a definite move away from the clichéd wine farm writing style towards something that’s far more understandable and approachable.

Some of my personal favourites are this blog (but of course), the Backsberg Blog and the Cabrière Blog. If you’re looking for a good wine related read (or watch) check them out.

Spit or Swallow visit Môreson
Posted: on April 6, 2009

Spit or Swallow is an online South African wine review website – so if you were looking for something dirty (I’m talking to you … yes you, you in the back trying to avoid eye contact and looking sheepish) I’m afraid you’ll only be disappointed. They’re known for their honesty and this weekend they came out to review Môreson.

I’d be fibbing if I told you I was totally relaxed about their visit (picture nails bitten into nothingness). My nerves had nothing to do with me worrying that we’re not good enough; I know that Môreson is a beautiful wine farm but we’re unconventional and unconventional isn’t everyone’s vibe. Some people want polished and flashy, and we’re definitely not polished or flashy (thank goodness).

Môreson is charming and sincere, we just don’t do that whole smooth-wine-farm vibe. We’re about cobbled farm roads, chickens (that don’t belong to us but seem to have moved in anyway) feeding under lemon trees and lamp posts that keep getting knocked over in hit-and-runs by less-than-sober-lunch/dinner-patrons.

So when it comes to review time I always hope that they (the reviewers) have a special place for charming and sincere wine farms that produce kick-arse wines! I’m happy to report that Spit or Swallow definitely has a special place for wine farms like Môreson.
