Posted: Nikki on June 8, 2010

Just to clarify this post deals with nothing even remotely dirty. Those of you looking for that are going to be bitterly disappointed!

Neil has put together a range of country specific sausages for the 2010 World Cup. There are all kinds of exciting sausages on offer and we’ll post a list, of what’s available, tomorrow.

Neil Jewell - The Charcuterie King.

Exciting stuff!

The Pig at the Chefs Warehouse was a huge success
Posted: Nikki on May 6, 2010

We love Neil Jewell and everything that he creates and we’re always delighted when other people love him (and everything he creates too).

Neil and Clayton enjoying wine, charcuterie and a laugh in Neil meat locker.

Jamie Who attended The Pig and, judging from the review, he thoroughly enjoyed his experience. The review is well written and an all round fantastic read. Serious we’re not just saying that because Jamie said such nice things … we genuinely enjoyed it. In fact we’re long time fans of Jamie Who, we dig him in a totally non-dodgy kind of way.

The Pig – Neil’s Chefs Warehouse Course
Posted: Nikki on May 3, 2010

Neil Jewell, Charcuterie King and head chef at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant, will be the opening act at Liam Tomlin’s newly opened Chefs Warehouse in Cape Town.

Neil will be presenting a three hour charcuterie course, called The Pig, that is – knowing Neil – going to be interesting, fun and hugely entertaining. In fact Neil is rumoured to be bringing his own pig so it’s certainly going to be unforgettable!

At the end of the course participants will have the opportunity to dine out on three of the dishes (all paired with wine) that they have prepared.

There are lots of take homes from the course, including comprehensive crib study notes.

The course costs R575, which  is a complete steal! It takes place this Wednesday evening (18h30 – 21h30) so if you’re interested we suggest that you book now.

Neil wins South African Leg of 2010 Global Pizza Challenge
Posted: on March 29, 2010

Neil Jewell – our Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant head chef and the local Charcuterie King – won the South African leg of the 2010 Global Pizza Challenge.

This means that in May 2010 Neil will be heading off to Melbourne to represent South Africa in finals of the Global Pizza Challenge. Awesome!

The pizza that clinched first place had a smoked flour base topped with aubergine, confit of Karoo lamb, sheeps’ feta, buchu and quince dressing. Sounds delicious doesn’t it? Well if you head out to Bread & Wine you’ll find it on the menu!

I don’t know how long it’ll be there so I suggest doing lunch sooner rather than later.

Môreson Blessing of the Harvest this Weekend
Posted: on February 3, 2010

We’re incredibly busy with the Môreson 2010 Harvest but, at the same time, we’re also preparing for our annual Blessing of the Harvest celebration taking place this Saturday and Sunday (the 6th and 7th of February 2010).

This year we will also be using the Blessing of the Harvest weekend to hand-over our first cheque (from the Miss Molly range of wines) to the South African Guide-Dog Association for the Blind*.

We’re fully booked so if you didn’t manage to reserve your place for this year there is always next year. For those of you that will be taking part in the Môreson 2010 Blessing of the Harvest we look forward to welcoming you to our farm.

P.S. Please don’t forget to pack hats and sunscreen.

* The Miss Molly range of wines (by Môreson) donates a portion of every bottle sold to the Guide-Dogs.

New Môreson Wine of the Week
Posted: on February 1, 2010

This week – from the 25th of January till the 31st of January 2010 – the Miss Molly 2009 Kitchen Thief Sauvignon Blanc is the Môreson Wine of the Week.

Miss Molly is the Môreson Robin Hood. When no one is looking she redistributes food, from the kitchen counter, to where it’s needed most.

Miss Molly loves to share and she’s as free with her love as she is with our groceries. An easygoing, loveable rascal with heart-melting mannerisms that ensure she gets away with just about everything.

Kitchen Thief is a wine designed to do what Miss Molly does best – share with friends.

The Miss Molly 2009 Kitchen Thief Sauvignon Blanc is being offered through the Môreson Tasting Room, for lunch at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant and in the Farm Grocer. What’s more is that a portion of every bottle of Miss Molly sold is donated to the South African Guide-Dog Association for the Blind.

What can we say … Miss Molly has a thing for guide dogs, she just can’t seem to keep her paws off them.

Bread & Wine Menu
Posted: on January 27, 2010

I had the most delicious lunch at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant yesterday. If you’re planning on eating here anytime soon I strongly suggest that you try the:

  • Salad of watercress, rocket, porcini and shallot dressing (different but amazing)
  • Char-grilled octopus, roast tomato risotto, chorizo chips (yum.yum.yum).

Both are new to the menu, both are excellent and both go very nicely with the Môreson Wine of the Week (the 2009 Miss Molly Kitchen Thief Sauvignon Blanc).

Excuse me while I wipe the drool of my keyboard.

Môreson Wine of the Week
Posted: on January 20, 2010

At the end of 2009 we introduce the Môreson Wine of the Week concept on the farm and it proved so popular we’ve decided to extend it into 2010.

If you visit the Môreson this week you’ll discover that our present wine of the week is the 2009 Môreson Chenin Blanc.

Being this week’s Môreson Wine of the Week means that the Chenin Blanc is offered for sale – through the Môreson Tasting Room and the Bread & Wine Farm Grocer only – at a special price: R62,00 per bottle instead of R69,00 per bottle (for this week only).

If you’re in the area pop in, grab a bite to eat (you’ll need to book for Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant), taste some of the amazing Môreson wines and take home a case of the 2009 Môreson Chenin Blanc. It’s seriously delicious, so you’ll probably need more than just a case.

Blessing of the Harvest 2010
Posted: on January 18, 2010

Harvest has officially started on Môreson and that means that our annual Blessing of the Harvest celebration must be just around the corner.

This year the Môreson Blessing of the Harvest is taking place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of February 2010 and it costs R300,00 per person. [For pictures of the 2009 Môreson Blessing of the Harvest click here].

For those of you that have never attended a Blessing of the Harvest it is the yearly Môreson homage to winemaking. At our Blessing of the Harvest every participant get the opportunity to make wine the old-fashioned way. You handpick your own basket of grapes and then press them using the oldest tools in the winemaking business – your feet.

A relaxed lunch at our award-winning Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant and a highly competitive label design competition follow the harvesting and grape-stomping activities. The grapes you pick and stomp are then matured, into wine, by us and available for collection later in the year.
