The Pig – Neil’s Chefs Warehouse Course
Posted: Nikki on May 3, 2010

Neil Jewell, Charcuterie King and head chef at Bread & Wine Vineyard Restaurant, will be the opening act at Liam Tomlin’s newly opened Chefs Warehouse in Cape Town.

Neil will be presenting a three hour charcuterie course, called The Pig, that is – knowing Neil – going to be interesting, fun and hugely entertaining. In fact Neil is rumoured to be bringing his own pig so it’s certainly going to be unforgettable!

At the end of the course participants will have the opportunity to dine out on three of the dishes (all paired with wine) that they have prepared.

There are lots of take homes from the course, including comprehensive crib study notes.

The course costs R575, which  is a complete steal! It takes place this Wednesday evening (18h30 – 21h30) so if you’re interested we suggest that you book now.

Experimenting with wine at Môreson
Posted: on February 26, 2010

At the moment Clayton is experimenting, for the first time, with Carbonic Maceration on a small selection of our Sauvignon Blanc. Carbonic Maceration is a process where the grapes are not crushed or pressed but placed into bins and saturated with Carbon Dioxide. The Carbon Dioxide gas triggers an enzymatic fermentation and the wild yeasts convert the rest.

We’ll keep you posted as the experiment progresses.

Môreson Harvest 2010 Update
Posted: on February 24, 2010

Clayton has spent a significant portion of today blending our latest Môreson Solitaire Méthode Cap Classique.

The experienced Frenchman, who is working the 2010 season in our cellar, has given his double-thumbs-up to Clayton’s latest Solitaire blend.

Clayton has also tweaked the Môreson Pink Méthode Cap Classique offering. The new generation of Pink Bubbly will now exhibit a lot more depth than any of our previous Rosé Méthode Cap Classiques.

After walking around the cellar and tasting the soon to be released wines (and those that have just been harvest) I can safely say that 2010 is going to be an excellent year for Môreson wines and methode cap classiques.

Môreson and The Wildlands Conservation Trust
Posted: on February 19, 2010

At Môreson we think that it’s important to support charities and initiatives that we believe make the world a better place. Through Miss Molly we support the South African Guide-Dog Association for the Blind by donating a portion of each bottle sold to the Guide-Dog Association.

We also do work with charities and one of these is the Wildlands Conservation Trust. They always send us the nicest emails to thank us for our support and at the end of last year they send us a certificate. We’re suckers for certificates (we’re convinced it’s a wine farm thing), we just love them.

The Franschhoek Cap Classique Festival
Posted: on October 13, 2009

This week everyone on Môreson, who was involved, will take part in the Franschhoek Uncorked 2009 debriefing session. During this session we’ll discuss the good, the bad and the ugly and look at ways to improve for next year. So if you have anything to add drop me an email or a comment.

We’ll also begin preparing for the next big Franschhoek event – the Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival. It’s always fun, well attended and full of bubbly … what could possibly be better? We’re planning on launching the new Môreson Cap Classique labels and packaging at this event so a lot of work, planning and other-things-like-that will have to take place between now and then to ensure that we’re 100% ready.

Double Gold at the 2009 Veritas Awards
Posted: on October 11, 2009

You might remember that the 2007 Môreson Premium Chardonnay received an amazing gold at the Chardonnay du Monde competition and now it’s younger, but equally delicious sibling, the 2008 Môreson Premium Chardonnay has scooped a double gold at Veritas.

Congratulations to all the other Veritas winners.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to open a bottle of our double-golded Premium Chardonnay to celebrate.
